Postcard and Letter Writing to Voters
🗽Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen. - Michael Jordan
People Power United folks rock! To date, our People Power United folks have written over a half a million letters and postcards! We really are making change happen! FYI our letter writing and postcard writing is happening year round. Here are some ways for you to plug in to this amazing and powerful way to engage community members on issues and voting.
You can write letters to voters by visiting our Swing Left partner Vote Forward: http://votefwd.org/swingleft. Supplies needed: blank paper, envelopes, Forever stamps, and a printer. Steps needed: sign-up and get approved, choose the state you are helping, choose the number of letters - 5 or 20, download and print letters, address letters and envelopes, and mail.
Can you commit to 5 or 20 a month?
Postcards to Voters
Postcards To Voters is a group of volunteers who write postcards to targeted voters in the hope of increasing turnout in close, key elections across the country. We do this in our homes, with friends, and in our communities. We also meet virtually on the first Wednesday of the month.
You can choose between the Partisan or Non-Partisan postcard campaigns:
Where to get supplies: For the partisan postcards, you can use plain cardstock or order cards from Amazon or Etsy, the designs are entirely up to you. For the non-partisan cards we recommend this amazing design that helps a small minority owned business.
Where to get Stamps: You can order postcards stamps here.
Where to get Addresses and Scripts of what to Write: You can order postcard addresses and scripts here.
Can you commit to 5 or 20 a month?
Tips for writing postcards or letters:
Please write legibly and avoid using cursive script
Do not sign your last name
Friendly reminder even though your labels may have a name, do not use the names on the labels. Use instead “Our Friends at”, “Our Neighbors at”, “Essential Voters”, “VIP Voters”, etc. That way if there is a move by the family, your postcards or letters will still be delivered.
Feel free to make your postcards colorful!
When you purchase stamps for postcards, make sure to get the postcard stamps, which are cheaper than the standard ones. For letters we recommend the forever stamps.
Please include the Spanish and Creole line as this outreach includes Hispanic and Creole speaking voters (if your instructions include it).
Shred addresses. Do not reuse or share.
Send us photos! We love seeing the engagement you are having in your community.
